My name is Valerie Wilson-Lindberg. I am so glad you found my site. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and my approach to therapy. My initial specializations were psycho-dynamic in nature, focused on treating children and adolescents utilizing expressive therapies. I am also trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Client-Centered, Family Systems and Solution-Focused therapies. In addition I am an RPT-S (Registered Play Therapist Supervisor). Play Therapy is not the same as regular, everyday play. While spontaneous play is a natural and essential part of the developmental process, Play Therapy is a systematic and therapeutic approach. Play Therapy incorporates a growing number of evidence-based practices and techniques in order to best respond to the needs of the individual. In the banner above you can see an example of a sand tray, a technique I often integrate into traditional therapies with all ages. Sand tray therapy can effectively connect us with our inner experience in a way that at times words cannot.
“Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child’s natural medium of self expression ... It is an opportunity which is given to the child to ‘play out’ his feelings and problems just as in certain types of adult therapy an individual ‘talks out’ his difficulties.
